Prayer is one of the most powerful ways to start your marriage journey. It will take the unforeseen circumstances off your chest and keep them at God’s feet. It will prepare the way for you and make the crooked places straight. Praying for a life partner (and ultimately your marriage) does not mean that you will not have issues in your marriage. Not at all. Praying for a godly spouse does not necessarily exempt one from the challenges of marriage. However, it will position you for victory, from time to time. Issues will always come up but God will always give you victory. The Bible says, “It is not of him that willet, neither him that runneth, but God that showeth mercy” (Romans 9:16). “The horse is ready for battle, but victory belongs to God” (Proverbs 21:31). Prayer, among other things, changes you. It will soften your heart, make you more humble, help you discern between wolves and sheep, and position you at the right place.
